Computer is
a high speed electronic device which can calculate both arithmetical and
logical expression
The word
“COMPUTER” comes from word “COMPUTE” which means to calculate. A computer is defined as a device that
operates upon information or data.
A computer can store ,process and retrieve data as when desired. Data processor is another name of computer
CHARACTERISTIC OF COMPUTER:-
SPEED:-
A computer
is very fast device. That can perform in a few seconds the amount of work that
human being can do in an entire year, if he worked day and night . To put in
different manner, a computer does in on minute what would take a man his life
time. In the case of computer we do not talk in terms of seconds or even
milliseconds (10-3) but in microseconds (10-6),
nanoseconds (10-9) and even picoseconds (10-12).
ACCURACY:-
For a
particular computer, Each and every calculation is performed with the same
accuracy. Any error can occur in a computer due to only human being rather than
technology mistake.
DILIGENCE:-
Unlike human
being a computer is free from monotony, tiredness, lack of concentration etc.
if ten million calculations have to be performed a computer will perform ten
millionth calculations with exactly the same accuracy and speed.
VERSATILITY:-
A computer
is capable of performing almost any task (work) provided that the task can be
reduced to a series a logically steps e.g. one moments , it is preparing the
result next moments it is busy to preparing electricity bills in between it may
be helping of office secretary to trace
an important letter in seconds.
POWER OF
REMEMBERING:-
As a human
being acquires new knowledge, the brain can forget it after some time but in
case of computer, a computer can store and recall any amount of information.
NO I.Q
(INTELLIGENT QUATIENT):-
Computer
possesses no intelligent of its own. Its I.Q is zero (at least today) it has to
be told that what is to do and in what sequence a computer cannot take its own
decision.
NO FEELING :-
Computer are
avoid of emotion .they have no feeling because they are machine based on our
felling, knowledge taste and experience .we can make certain judgment in our
daily life. But computer cannot make such judgment. There is based on the
instruction given to them in the form of program that are written by us.
